Young Emmaus supporter, Reuben, has completed a charity bake sale to raise funds and awareness for Emmaus Hull & East Riding.

On Friday 20 December, 13-year-old Reuben raised around £200 for Emmaus by selling a variety of home-made cakes at Hessle Surgery. In addition, he has collected £92 in donation boxes since September 2024. There have also been online donations made through Reuben’s raising awareness of our charity. The funds raised by Reuben will go towards the support given to people who live at The Orchard – our residential community home in Hull.

Reuben commented: “I was showed around the Emmaus community home, and it was interesting to see both their community and the Emmaus Furniture Superstore. Before visiting, I didn’t realise how big it was.”

“To raise funds for Emmaus, I baked and sold a range of cakes including gingerbread, chocolate cookies, muffins, lemon drizzle cake, shortbread and more. This counts towards my Duke of Edinburgh Award, but it was nice to be able to help a local charity.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, tailored support, training and work opportunities to people who have experienced homelessness. After hearing about Emmaus at a school assembly, Reuben was inspired to visit our community and complete a fundraising activity as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Stephanie Dixon, Director at Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “It was our absolute pleasure to host a visit from Reuben and his mum, who expressed an interest in supporting our charity. We’re all very grateful to Reuben for his fundraising and awareness raising efforts in support of Emmaus Hull & East Riding.”
