People supported by Emmaus Hull & East Riding have benefited from expert advice and support from two national businesses.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. On Thursday 21 November, staff from Go Green Ltd and wienerberger visited our community where Go Green Ltd staff led engaging CV and mock interview workshops. Additionally, both Go Green and wienerberger staff helped out within our Hull charity shops.

Andy, one of the people supported by Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “I’d not had a lot of job interviews, so the mock interview gave me some pointers and made me much more confident when answering real life interview questions the following week. The timing was perfect, and I am so happy I got the job! I appreciate the time and effort from everyone involved in delivering the workshop.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding works with a range of business partners to support people with experience of homelessness to get back on their feet. Go Green Ltd is a leader in outsourced waste management and recycling solutions. wienerberger is a leading provider of building solutions in the UK and Ireland.

Ieva Myers, Social Value Manager at Go Green Ltd, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed coordinating our efforts with our customer, wienerberger, in supporting Emmaus Hull & East in November. It was an incredibly rewarding experience and was fantastic to see how this collaborative partnership impacts the individuals that receive Emmaus’ work experience and employment assistance.”

Support for our community members

On the day, we also received a large donation of toiletries for use within our 30-bedroom residential community, donated by Go Green Ltd and wienerberger employees from across their sites. Emmaus companions (people supported by our charity), are offered the opportunity to gain skills, training, confidence, and new experiences.

Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “The support our charity received from Go Green Ltd, wienerberger and their employees was of great benefit to our companions. For one individual, the mock interview training was particularly useful as he had a real job interview the following week and got offered a job.”

“Charity partnerships with businesses and organisations are vital to our success, but also really beneficial to our partners and their staff teams too. We are keen to establish more business links and encourage anyone interested to get in touch to arrange a visit to our residential community in Hull.”

Emmaus Hull & East Riding is currently collecting items to support our Outreach service this winter. We are appealing for donations of warm and waterproof clothing, sleeping bags, new men’s underwear, men’s XL clothing and non-perishable food such as crisps, biscuits, chocolate and breakfast bars.
