Transport company Den Hartogh Dry Bulk Logistics has come to our rescue by donating a new commercial cooker.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. The gift from Den Hartogh follows an appeal to replace our community cooker, used to prepare meals for 30 people who live at The Orchard, our residential community in Hull.

Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Royal Den Hartogh Logistics who not only donated our new oven but also visited us to cook breakfast for our community members!

“After our old cooker had broken, we were really struggling to prepare all the meals needed for the many people we support. Thankfully, Den Hartogh came to our rescue and provided us with a suitable replacement, capable of cooking the quantity of meals needed at our community.”

On Friday 12 July, four employees from the Den Hartogh logistics office in Hull put the new cooker to good use by volunteering to cook a full English breakfast for our community members. Den Hartogh’s support is part of the company’s Community Cares initiative, where employees can team up to help with charitable events, volunteering or contributing to their communities.

Stephanie Brear, Account Receivable Administrator at Den Hartogh Dry Bulk Logistics, said: “Emmaus is a fantastic charity, and we enjoyed spending some time with the companions and staff, seeing what they do to help in the community. It’s great that Den Hartogh allows us the time and funding to do this, with their Community Cares initiative.”

Den Hartogh specialises in transporting dry bulk food, recycled, and chemical goods. The family-owned company was established in The Netherlands in 1920 and now has a presence in every region of the world, with premises and offices in 27 countries.

As a local charity, Emmaus Hull & East Riding relies on a range of support from individuals, partner organisations and businesses. In addition to our Emmaus residential community, we also deliver an outreach service, providing direct support to people who are street homeless.
