We joined forces with global adhesives leader Henkel for a ‘Green Skills Workshop’ encouraging sustainable practices among employees.
We provided a range of donated upcycling materials from our St Albans workshop for the training session run by Henkel at its Hemel Hempstead headquarters. The workshop was aimed at acquainting employees with its range of adhesives while encouraging reusing and recycling.
Not only did the cross-training exercise strengthen inter-departmental relations, but it also enabled colleagues to create bird boxes, mosaics and restore items of furniture and crockery – from items that could otherwise go to landfill.
Gemma Beckett, Emmaus Hertfordshire’s Business Development Manager said:
“Henkel approached us with an idea for a Green Skills Workshop that would show their employees ways to be sustainable using their own products. One of their sustainability pillars is Thriving Communities, so working with a local charity like ours was a great fit.
“They have an incredible range of adhesives that are perfect for upcycling or repairing items, rather than throwing them away which is a huge part of what we do.
“It was a fantastic day and such a pleasure to work with Henkel and their team. We’re hoping to do another since it was so popular!”
Victoria Hampstead, Senior Cluster Manager Northern Europe, said:
“True sustainability requires practical, hands-on action. Our Green Skills Workshop with Emmaus was a powerful way to engage our teams, demonstrating how our own adhesive products and technical expertise, like LOCTITE and Unibond can make upcycling accessible, less wasteful, and cost efficient.
“By restoring items that will be sold to raise vital funds for Emmaus, this initiative perfectly aligned our commitment to circularity with making a tangible difference in our local community.”
Henkel is the leading solution provider for adhesives, sealants and functional coatings worldwide.
Emmaus Hertfordshire provides more than a bed for the night. People supported by the charity receive a stable home, personalised support, counselling, and opportunities to gain skills and work experience through its social enterprises, helping them rebuild confidence and work towards independent living.
