We were honoured to be invited to the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) Awards as special guests of our charity partner, Abels Moving Services.

The prestigious removals company invited our Business Development Manager, Gemma Beckett, to the highly regarded awards held in the stunning Drapers Hall, in the City of London last Thursday (October 17).

Celebrating the very best of British design, the BIID Awards showcase the finest interior design projects completed across the UK. Winners were awarded across seven regional categories, celebrating every type of interior design, from the largest commercial project to the smallest residential dwelling.

In addition, two landmark prizes were awarded – the Interior of the Year Prize, which is awarded to the best interior design project in the UK and the Anna Whitehead Prize, awarded to the best achievement in sustainable interior design.

“Historic surroundings”

Gemma said: “It was a fantastic event, held in such beautiful and historic surroundings, which really mirrored the aesthetic nature of the awards.

“I had an opportunity to meet people from the furniture and interior design industries who were particularly interested in what we do at Emmaus in terms of upcycling and restoring furniture, and how we could potentially work together going forward. It was encouraging to see that sustainability is a big priority for the industry, as it’s at the heart of what we do at Emmaus.

“A huge thank you to Abels Moving Services for inviting me as their special guest and providing an opportunity to meet some potential collaborators going forward. We’re grateful for their continued support.”

The BIID Awards were presented to an audience of almost 180 industry professionals who had gathered from all over the UK.

All projects shortlisted for the BIID Awards were visited in person by expert site assesors, whose findings are passed on to the BIID jury who judge entries against a rigorous criterion.

Based in Potters Bar, Abels started to provide their moving services to the Royal Household in 1981, and in 1988 was honoured to be the first removals and storage company to be nominated ‘By Appointment’ to Her Late Majesty the Queen.
