Why donate to Emmaus Hertfordshire?
When you donate to Emmaus Hertfordshire, you have a direct impact on the lives of people working hard to rebuild their lives following homelessness.
We depend on your continued support and kind donations to keep us going and we always do our utmost to sell, recycle or re-use to grow an income from everything you give us.
We are currently accepting donations but with some restrictions. Please see below for information.
What items can I donate?
As a charity which sells pre-loved items, we rely on the generous donations of members of the public.
We welcome donations of good quality furniture, bicycles, home wear and bric-a-brac. We also accept working electrical appliances such as washing machines or fridge freezers, alongside smaller electrical items such as flat-screen TVs and lamps.
We are happy to accept most household items in saleable condition, but if you’re not sure, feel free to give us a call.
Unfortunately, due to excess stock or restrictions on reselling, there are a number of items we are not currently accepting. Please see below for information.
Items we are not currently accepting
We are extremely grateful to for all the donations we receive, however, due to high waste disposal costs and trading standards, there are some items we are unable to accept.
This includes soft furnishings without a valid fire label, safety items, baby equipment, used duvet and pillows, flat-packed furniture unless boxed, flammable or gas appliances, or any item that is not in a saleable condition.
Please note, WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF THE FOLLOWING:
- DVDs and CDs
- Books
- Any damaged or broken furniture
- Anything upholstered with rips, tears , stains, damage or without a fire label.
How can I donate larger items?
Where possible we ask that you drop-off your donated items to any of our shops across the county. We do offer a free collection service for you to donate furniture (subject to condition) but we are unable to collect clothes, bric-a-brac and small donations. We also provide a Hertfordshire house clearance service.

Emmaus Hertfordshire's House Clearance Service
Emmaus Hertfordshire offers an affordable house clearance service with a difference as all proceeds will be used to support people who have experienced homelessness.
We offer a full and partial house clearance service, covering the county of Hertfordshire and North London. Clearance fees are charged according to the size of the clearance but are very competitive compared to other clearance businesses and you can rest assured that all saleable items will go straight to our stores to find new homes!
Remember to add gift aid if you can!
If you’re donating furniture or making a cash donation to Emmaus Hertfordshire, then please take the time to complete a Gift Aid form.
Gift Aid allows us to claim an extra 25% from the value of your donation to support our work. It doesn’t cost you a penny and it’s easy to do – you just need to request and complete a Gift Aid form provided by Emmaus Hertfordshire in store or when we collect your items.
