Sir Terry Waite launched Emmaus UK’s annual Christmas Appeal with a message that “everybody should have the chance to experience the joy and hope of Christmas with other people”.
The Emmaus UK President highlighted the isolation felt by many people experiencing homelessness and how it “becomes even more stark” during the festive season.
As part of the appeal, we are asking for your kind support to enable us to offer a safe warm home, company at Christmas, and a fresh start for people with experience of homelessness.
Your support could either be a donation of money to help fund our vital work, or a donation of essential items to help us ensure that people affected by homelessness receive a dignified and warm welcome to our community.
Making it easier to donate items, our Amazon Wishlist includes items such as bedding, bath towels, underwear and socks. Items can also be dropped off at any of our shops, clearly marked ‘Christmas Appeal 2024’.
Our Community Support Manager, Harley Scott, said: “It’s shocking how many people will spend Christmas Day without a place to call home, many of them facing loneliness and social exclusion.
“We want to end the trauma of homelessness for as many people as possible and provide them with a warm home, companionship and a chance of a much brighter future. For many of our companions, our community has become their extended family. Others reconnect with their relatives and friends, thanks to the stability and opportunities they get whilst at Emmaus.
“Thanks to our supporter’s kind donations, we can provide much more than a place to stay, but a community where people feel welcomed and supported.”
Your support can help someone rediscover the joy of connection and belonging this Christmas, by securing them a place at an Emmaus community and ensuring they are given a dignified and warm welcome.
