A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Emmaus Hertfordshire during the lock down.  We have really missed seeing our customers and opening our shops.  As we come out of lock down and we begin to open our shops, there are some very important measures that we are putting in place to ensure everyone is as safe as possible.  Please read these fully before booking donating items to us or visiting one of our stores.

The first and most important point is that if you or anyone in your household is displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, then please do not donate to us, please don’t visit our stores and please postpone any deliveries from us that you have booked.

Collections and Deliveries of Items:

To ensure the continuing safety and well being of everyone we have had to make certain changes to our collection and donation service that may cause some inconvenience to our supporters. We sincerely apologise for this, but we need to follow the government guidance.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of safe and secure quarantine space at our stores we are unable to take over-the-counter donations at any of our shops, for the time being.

With limited storage space and the need to quarantine all items for 72 hours, we are having to limit and control what we can initially safely take. We will be accepting a limited number of items at pre-booked drop-off points at our St Albans and Harpenden stores and we would ask that you contact us on

01727 817297

or alternatively email us at

before you travel.

Please do not leave items outside the shops when we are closed as we will need to dispose of them – which will be expensive and at our cost.

Donations we are accepting at our pre-booked, drop off points:

  • All beds and mattresses of all sizes. Good, Clean condition, with no rips, tears, stains or marks with fire labels.
  • Wardrobes (except dismantled chipboard)
  • Chests of Drawers large and small
  • Anything in solid wood (especially pine or antique) not veneered
  • Sofas and suites in good, clean saleable condition with fire labels

If there is any further information or clarification you require please do not hesitate to contact us on the above no. or email address to discuss it with a member of the Emmaus Hertfordshire Team who will be happy to assist you.

When visiting our stores:

  • Please queue outside our stores as we are limiting the number of customers allowed inside at any one time
  • Please wear a face mask and gloves if at all possible
  • Please regularly use our hand sanitisers that you can find around our stores
  • Please keep two metres apart at all times
  • Please do not touch any items on the shop floor (unless you intend to purchase the item)
  • Please pay by card when you can
  • Our toilets and changing rooms will be closed until further notice
  • Please do not visit if you are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19

Please continue to bear with us during this time as we truly value and appreciate your support and custom, without it we would be unable to continue supporting our Companions and the Emmaus Hertfordshire Community.
