We’ve received a huge boost after being chosen by prestigious removals company, Abels Moving Services, as its chosen charity.
Based in Potters Bar, Abels started to provide their moving services to the Royal Household in 1981, and in 1988 was honoured to be the first removals and storage company to be nominated ‘By Appointment’ to Her Late Majesty the Queen.
Abels have chosen to work with Emmaus Hertfordshire in recognition of the vital work we do to support people who have experienced homelessness with a home, tailored support, companionship and work opportunities.
Our residents, known to us as companions, gain skills and confidence within our four charity shops, house clearance service and community workshop, where they restore and upcycle donated items for resale.
Abels’ Head of Special Projects and Branch Manager, James Mehmet, said: ”We are delighted to announce our partnership with Emmaus as our nominated charity.
“A number of our customers frequently ask us the question: “How can I dispose of unwanted household items?”, and we always recommend donating them to charity.
“What we love about Emmaus is that, as well as helping people who have experienced homelessness get back into society with work opportunities through their workshops and stores, they also upcycle furniture or any unwanted household items and sell them in their various charity shops.
“In a nutshell, as well as a good charitable cause, Emmaus are also thinking about the environment and sustainability.”
Our Business Development Manager, Gemma Beckett, said: “We are honoured and thrilled to partner with Abels, a removals company with an incredible history and Royal association.
“Abels got in touch with us earlier in the year and were incredibly supportive by providing lots of furniture and items ahead of the opening of our new store in Letchworth, which was amazing. We really appreciate their support.”
This partnership marks a double Royal connection for Emmaus Hertfordshire as Emmaus UK’s current Royal Patron is Her Majesty Queen Camilla.
