Emmaus Hampshire is a homelessness charity with a difference, providing more than just a bed for the night for people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
Our Emmaus community provides people with a stable home, individual support and life-changing opportunities to break the cycle of homelessness. We do this by harnessing everyone’s potential – using the power of community, social enterprise and solidarity to help people regain their self-respect, build their skills, boost their confidence and achieve their potential.
Here at Emmaus Hampshire, we’re focussed on working together to end homelessness for the people we support. From our residential community in Winchester, we provide a home and tailored support for up to 40 people, known as Emmaus companions.
Our package of support for people who find themselves homeless or at risk of homelessness covers a wide range of areas including personal development, training, work experience and life-changing opportunities.
To sustain the support offered at our community, we generate the majority of our charity’s income through our social enterprise and three charity stores across Hampshire.
Our social enterprise activity also includes a house clearance service, on-site workshops, a recycling centre and Green Roof Cafe. Everybody we support is encouraged to contribute within our charity and social enterprise to the best of their ability, alongside local volunteers.
Emmaus Hampshire companions are encouraged to carry out acts of solidarity with people and groups affected by poverty and social injustice.
Solidarity action can be very valuable for Emmaus companions as it is often key to helping to rebuild self-esteem and enables them to give back, proving that everyone has the capacity to make a difference to the lives of others.
