Emmaus Hampshire has a purpose-built residential community, situated at the edge of the city of Winchester, where we can house and support up to 40 people at any one time.

When people become homeless, they may feel the chances to turn their life back around are few and far between. Here at Emmaus Hampshire, we’re focussed on working together with people who experience homelessness, supporting them to achieve their goals.

We don’t give people a bed for a night – our homelessness support is longer-term. Emmaus Hampshire provides a stable home, individual support and life-changing opportunities to enable people to break the cycle of homelessness. We do this by harnessing everyone’s potential – using the power of community, social enterprise and solidarity to help people regain their self-respect, build their skills, boost their confidence and achieve their potential.

A home and companionship

When someone comes to live at our community, they become an Emmaus companion. Each companion has their own en-suite bedroom and access to all areas of the community including a modern kitchen, lounge, dining room, games room, a beautiful garden and outdoor spaces. We encourage companions to make use of the local boxing club, bowls green, Olympic sized pool and gym, and we are able to cover the costs of most of these.

As part of our package of support, we provide meals, clothes, toileteries and involve companions in the decision-making process throughout their time at Emmaus Hampshire. With mentoring, training and emotional support, companions have an opportunity to achieve their goals and aspirations. We support companions to gain confidence, plan next steps and rebuild their lives to gain a sense of purpose in the world again.

Fresh opportunities

Emmaus Hampshire provides care, support, education, training and personal development to support people on their journey to a better future. We have a workshop and a recycling centre, ideas that companions have developed here over the years, along with a house clearance service.

Companions are asked to contribute to the best of their ability in our community and social enterprise, alongside local volunteers. This includes helping within our charity stores, collecting and delivering household items, repairing and refurbishing furniture, or cooking within our community home and café. Through this daily activity, companions can build skills, confidence and experience to help towards their future goals.
