Emmaus Hampshire, the homelessness charity, is upgrading its supply of preloved furniture by relocating its Southampton store to Eastleigh.

Following the move, the charity’s stores in Leigh Road, Eastleigh and Winchester will sell a wider range of high-quality furniture.

Nigel Samuels, chief executive of Emmaus Hampshire, says, “Focusing furniture sales on two stores provides much more efficient distribution of our stock, most of which comes from around Winchester and Eastleigh. This cuts our carbon footprint and journey times, reduces our overheads and returns capital we can invest elsewhere.”

Formerly homeless members of the Emmaus community, called Companions, run the stores, workshops, warehousing, collection and deliveries for the social enterprise. The two talented Companions who run the Southampton store currently are being redeployed.

Southampton residents can currently pick up a bargain at the Shirley store’s relocation sale, which will end on Saturday 23 June.

Environmental and cost of living concerns are driving an upsurge in demand for preloved items and Emmaus Hampshire is well placed to meet this growth. Nigel Samuels explains, “We have exciting plans to present preloved fashion in a boutique setting. Watch this space for our next announcement.”
