Emmaus Hampshire, the homelessness charity, has celebrated its contribution to more sustainable living at a Christmas event for Companions, supporters and donors.
Speaking at the Emmaus Christmas celebration, chief executive Njgel Samuels said, “Each of our Companions has a different talent which make a positive impact on the Winchester community. Tackling homelessness and improving the environment are at the heart of everything they do.”
The event, held on 11 December at the charity’s Winchester community, featured contributions from the formerly homeless Companions and some of the volunteers who help them run its operations.
Fashion consultant, Sarah Sullivan hosted a workshop on How to Look Good with Pre-Loved Fashion using items from the charity’s boutique collection. Stefan Trebacz then showed guests how the charity upcycles pieces of leather into desirable and attractive gifts.
Companion Rhys, whose life has been changed by living at Emmaus Hampshire, explained how the community has relieved poverty around the city through Solidarity projects.
Companion Liam entertained the guests with his own musical compositions. These tackle homelessness, poverty and other social issues with a voice of hope. Some of his music has already been played on the BBC and he is a young man with big plans for his future. The event concluded with a splendid buffet prepared and served by the Companions.
