At Emmaus Gloucestershire, we support people who have experienced homelessness by providing a stable home with no time limit, tailored support, funded training and meaningful work experience.

This is not possible without the generous support of our donors, both small and large. This February is Payroll Giving Month, and to mark the occasion, we’re encouraging individuals and businesses to consider Payroll Giving as a simple yet impactful way to support our work. By donating directly from your salary before tax, you can provide vital, ongoing support that helps us continue offering a home, training, and work opportunities to those in need of a fresh start. Read on to find out how Payroll Giving works and how you can use it to support our charity!

What is Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving, also known as Give As You Earn, is a simple and tax-effective way to donate to charities directly from your salary. By setting up a regular donation through your employer’s payroll system, your contributions are deducted before tax, meaning a £10 donation will cost you only £8 (or £6 if you’re a higher-rate taxpayer). This ensures that your chosen charity receives the full amount, and you benefit from immediate tax relief.

How does Payroll Giving benefit Emmaus Gloucestershire?

Regular donations through Payroll Giving provide us with a steady income stream, allowing us to plan and deliver our services more effectively. Your contributions help us:

  • Provide accommodation: Offer a safe and stable home for as long as it’s needed.
  • Create work and opportunities: Engage companions in our social enterprises, such as our second-hand shops, where they gain valuable skills and experience.
  • Offer tailored support: Assist companions in addressing personal challenges, accessing training, and preparing for independent living.

How to set up Payroll Giving

  1. Check with your employer: See if your employer offers a Payroll Giving scheme. Many organisations have these programmes in place, and some even match employee donations, doubling the impact.
  2. Choose your donation amount: Decide on an amount that’s comfortable for you to give each pay period. Remember, because donations are pre-tax, the cost to you is less than the amount we receive.
  3. Complete a form: Your employer will provide a form to authorise the deductions. You can specify Emmaus Gloucestershire as your chosen charity. Our charity number is 1067483.

Other ways to support us

If Payroll Giving isn’t an option for you, there are other ways to contribute:

  • One-off donations: Make a one-off or regular donation through on our Donate page.
  • Donate goods: We welcome donations of good quality furniture, clothes, toys, books, and more. These items are sold in our shops to raise funds for our community. Find out what we can and cannot accept, and how to enquire about a free collection on our Donate Goods page.
  • Volunteer: Join our team as a volunteer in one of our shops. We have a variety of roles open in our Gloucester, Stroud, Nailsworth and Cheltenham shops.

Your support, in any form, makes a significant difference in the lives of those we serve. This February, consider setting up a Payroll Giving donation to help us continue our vital work in Gloucestershire.
