This December has been a special time for us at Emmaus Gloucestershire as we came together to spread solidarity and help others in our local community. Our solidarity activities are led by our companions, giving them the chance to give back in a meaningful way.

Supporting Cheltenham Open Door

This year, our Solidarity Committee chose to support Cheltenham Open Door, a brilliant local charity that provides food, friendship, and support to vulnerable people. At Christmas, they go the extra mile with three days of celebrations, including breakfast, gift bags, and a homecooked Christmas lunch.

We acted as a drop-off point for their Christmas Appeal, collecting food donations like tinned meals, chocolate, biscuits, and other essentials. Thanks to everyone who donated, we’ve been able to help ensure Cheltenham Open Door can provide a warm, welcoming space for people this Christmas.

Aid for Ukraine

We were also proud to support Aid for Ukraine – Gloucestershire. Companion Martin and staff members Lorraine and Mark loaded up two carloads of essential items—like toiletries, sleeping bags, tents, and torches—and delivered them to The Ukrainian Church of The Good Shepherd. It felt good knowing we could send a little help and some Christmas treats to those facing such challenging times.

Sharing Christmas Gift Bags

Another highlight of December has been working with Packed With Love to share their amazing Christmas gift bags. Companion Filipe delivered some of these bags to Gloucester City Mission, where they’ll be given to people experiencing homelessness on Christmas Day, alongside a hot meal.

A big thank you

We’re so grateful to everyone who’s supported us this month—whether you dropped off donations, gave your time, or simply liked our posts on Facebook. From all of us at Emmaus Gloucestershire, we wish you a peaceful and happy New Year!
