Sarah joined the National Housing Federation in 2017, becoming Head of Policy in 2023. She previously worked in policy roles in local government in London. Sarah leads the NHF’s programme of work on supported housing, homelessness and older persons housing.
Sophie Boobis is Head of Policy and Research at Homeless Link where she leads a team to produce evidence informed policy influencing across a range of policy areas impacting people experiencing homelessness. She has been working homelessness policy for over a decade with a continued focus on how to ensure that research provides the knowledge and evidence needed to influence policy makers, and a priority of making sure the reality of the experiences of those working in services, and people with lived experience of homelessness are embedded throughout. Sophie’s published work includes homelessness funding, experiences of migrant homelessness, multiple disadvantage, youth homelessness, the implementation of the HRA, and homelessness health inclusion.
Sam is Policy, Campaigns and External Affairs Manager at Emmaus UK, leading work to engage with the government and other key stakeholders on issues relating to homelessness and supported housing. A particular focus has been driving forward Emmaus UK's project to shape the Supported Housing Act, working closely with the companion researchers and colleagues at Emmaus UK to conduct research across different supported housing settings, and share key insights with the government and providers. Sam represents Emmaus UK on the Steering Group for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Ending Homelessness.
Sir Terry became president of Emmaus UK shortly after his release from captivity in 1991. He had spent 1,763 days in captivity, the first four years of which were spent in solitary confinement. Sir Terry’s experience in captivity gives him a great insight into the misery, isolation, fear, boredom and despair that many homeless people go through.
Jay gained national recognition during the COVID pandemic as the creator and host of Jay’s Virtual Pub Quiz, which raised over £1.4 million for UK charities. His efforts earned him an MBE and a Guinness World Record. Jay is a regular on BBC Radio 2, using his platform to raise awareness of homelessness, which he has experienced himself.
Kerri Douglas is a passionate advocate, speaker, and author dedicated to challenging stereotypes around homelessness and inspiring change. Drawing on her lived experience of care, abuse, mental health struggles, and homelessness, Kerri shares her journey from hardship to hope with honesty and impact. She is the author of Homelessness Inside Out and Gutter to Glory – Pavements to Parliament, using her story to educate, empower, and break down stigma. Through keynote speeches, workshops, and resources, Kerri gives voice to those too often unheard, inspiring communities to see homelessness from the inside out.
Charlotte Talbott took up the role of Chief Executive at Emmaus UK in September 2021. Charlotte’s career has been focused on drug and alcohol recovery, homelessness and criminal justice. She joined Emmaus from The Connection at St-Martin-in-the-Field where she was the Deputy Chief Executive and had been leading on a transformational change programme.
