As of this week, we have given away close to £5000 worth of furniture and household items to 25 local families facing financial hardship. As part of our 25th birthday celebrations, we had planned to donate the goods to two families every week from October to December. However, following the new COVID-19 restrictions, we decided to speed things up a little so that each family had the chance to make their house a home in time for lockdown.

We have spent the past three days sorting out and packaging up furniture, washing machines, tumble dryers and more, then delivering these items to 20 underprivileged families in the area. Before the latest guidance was announced, we had already donated furniture to five local households as part of our 25th birthday solidarity project.

Debbie Stevenson, Community Manager at Emmaus Dover, said: “All the families were so appreciative of the goods that they received and it was great to complete these donations in such a short time.”

From Thursday 5 November, we will be closing our three shops and pressing pause on our collection and delivery service for a little while. We also won’t be able to accept any of your kind furniture donations until further notice.

We are so grateful for your continued support and will rely on it even more so in the coming months, so we’d like to say a big thank you from all of us here at Emmaus Dover.

While our shops are closed, we’ll be keeping you up to date on everything the community has been up to on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so stay tuned.
