Emmaus Dover invites local people to open evening
We are inviting members of the local community to an open evening on Wednesday 1 October, 5.30pm–6.30pm at our historic Archcliffe Fort site. The event is open to anyone interested in volunteering or exploring a trustee role.
We provide a home, meaningful work, and tailored support for up to 27 people who have experienced homelessness, known within the community as companions. More than just a bed for the night, we help people rebuild their lives, regain independence, and contribute to social enterprises that sustain the community.
During the open evening, visitors will have the chance to take a guided tour, meet staff and companions, and learn more about the wide range of volunteering and trustee opportunities available.
Volunteering with Emmaus Dover offers people the chance to use their skills and interests for good, while also learning new ones and taking part in creative upcycling and sustainability projects. It’s an opportunity to build confidence, stay active in a rewarding role, connect with others, and be part of an inspiring local community.
We are also seeking to strengthen our Board of Trustees, a team of volunteers who play a vital role in guiding and supporting our work. We are also particularly keen to hear from individuals with expertise in finance, housing management, HR, or ICT, as well as those with experience in charity governance.
Emmaus Dover Chief Executive Officer, Debra Stevenson, said: “Our open evening is a fantastic opportunity for anyone considering a volunteer or trustee role to discover more about the work we do. Being part of Emmaus Dover is extremely rewarding. Seeing companions who have experienced homelessness rebuild their lives with a safe place to live, new skills, and a renewed sense of purpose is truly inspiring.
“We all have a unique range of skills that can make a real difference. By dedicating your time and expertise, you can positively impact the lives of people rebuilding their futures. We encourage anyone in the local community who shares our vision to come along and find out more.”
The event begins at 5.30pm, with free on-site parking and refreshments provided.
