In an act of solidarity, four of our companions have made the decision to volunteer at the Winter Night Shelter every Friday evening, with two of the four also volunteering on a Sunday evening.
The shelter, which is open every night from December to March, is run entirely by volunteers, with safe and secure facilities available for rough sleepers provided in seven local churches.
The Winter Night Shelter provides invaluable support for rough sleepers and we are delighted that our companions have chosen to support the tireless work of the volunteers who help run the service.
Debs Golden, Community Leader at Emmaus Dover said:
“We support 27 formerly homeless people by offering a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to get back on their feet again. The concept of solidarity, helping others less fortunate than yourself, is a central ethos of Emmaus and a motivation for the volunteers supporting the Winter Night Shelter”
