On Saturday 30th November Dover Market Square and St James’ Retail Park switched on the Christmas lights in the town to kick off the festive season. Visitors were entertained by an array of entertainment including carol singers, Santa’s sleigh and a festive funfair.

The event, organised by St James’ Retail Park, was in aid of Emmaus Dover, where the charity also had a stall. Emmaus Dover supports people who have experienced homelessness by offering a home for as long as they need it and the opportunity to gain new skills in its social enterprise. The combination of a stable living environment and work experience gives people the chance to regain their confidence, self-esteem and dignity so they can rebuild their lives.

The Christmas light switch on was the first for the £53 million leisure and retail complex, which opened 20 months ago.
