Operation Christmas is back!
Our annual Christmas appeal returns! Help us to share festive joy with children & families across Colchester and donate toys to the appeal!
Last week, a group of 10 brave fundraisers took on a 13,000-foot skydive at Beccles Airfield to raise funds and awareness for our community. The team collectively raised the highest total in the event’s three-year history!
Radio 2 star and quiz host Jay Flynn MBE was among the fundraisers, taking on the skydive in solidarity with people currently experiencing homelessness. For two years, Jay was street homeless in London and now he devotes his time to raising awareness of the impacts of rough sleeping.
The skydiving team was made up of staff and trustees from local Colchester organisations and businesses including Ginger Nut Training, Colchester City Council, and Community 360. Three of our companions living in the community also took on the adrenaline challenge!
As a team, the fundraisers raised an amazing £7,788 for our community to help people out of homelessness and build towards a better future.
Brian Cooke, our CEO supported the team on the day of the skydive jump and shared “We have been blown away by the amount that has been raised and the number of people who have come together to support our charity. The skydive is an annual event for us and we love having the chance to connect with other organisations and people in the local community. I commend everyone for taking part – I’m yet to be brave enough!”
The funds raised from this skydive will help us expand meaningful work opportunities for our residents, provide accommodation for those with no recourse to public funds, cover driving lessons for our companions, and contribute to a new pool table for our community lounge.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated and supported our skydiving team!
So, who wants to take on the challenge next year?
