Companions at Emmaus Colchester have been getting creative during the lockdown period.

With the help of retail manager, Gemma Aylesbury, brothers, Jason (left) and Carlton (right), have been sewing masks to help protect companions, staff and volunteers at Emmaus Colchester.

The team of crafters set up a production line at the New Life Shop on Crouch Street and got to work creating the protective masks using a collection of patterned fabrics. While Carlton cut out the fabric using a template, Jason pinned the pieces together and Gemma completed the sewing.

Gemma said, “We’ve been keeping the companions occupied during the lockdown period and the masks seemed a good opportunity to learn some new skills, while helping to protect one another in our community.”
