The first time I met Terry Waite was an amazing moment for me.

What is your favourite section of the shop/Community?

Believe it or not, the Logistics Office! I miss my work. Routine and normality are very important to me. I hope we can get back to operating soon. This community is very important.

What does solidarity mean to you?

Helping other human beings. It doesn’t matter who they are or how they need help, we should all be helping each other. The reason why many people struggle is due to a lack of support.

Name one celebrity you would like to sit down and have dinner with?

Luke Kelly (The Dubliners)

What does a typical day at Emmaus Cambridge involve for you?

At the moment there are no typical days, I do whatever needs to be done!

What food can you not resist?

Indian

What is the strangest item in the shop that you have come across?

We found a Fat Magnet once and no one knew what it was, it took us 2 months to figure it out. Heads were wrecked by that one.

What do you feel most grateful for?

Being alive

What’s the one thing you’ve always wanted to do in your life, if you’ve done it how did it make you feel and if not then why not?

I am doing exactly what I want to do, I am writing books. That’s how I stay grounded.

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far?

Being sober

What do you value most in a friendship?

Reliability

How do you feel about your friendship with fellow staff/ trustees at Emmaus Cambridge?

The dynamic in the Cambridge community is very different from what I know of many other communities. There is a high degree of equality in Cambridge and more tolerance. I have a very good rapport with most people here. This community is very stable and it has been for quite some time.

What’s your favourite hobby?

I play RPG’s

What’s your favourite animal?

Fox

After lockdown what do you hope to have learnt about yourself that maybe you were not aware of before?

I am not sure. I don’t think Lockdown is teaching me anything that life before it was not already teaching me.

If you could choose the one place to isolate, where would it be?

Donegal

If you could choose the one person to isolate with, who would it be?

My Mucker Lee Wharton who died some years ago. I miss him a lot.

My Mum

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

I don’t think that far ahead.

What is your biggest fear?

I don’t really have any fears, that I know of, at present.

If you could be good at something that you are not, what would it be?

Playing the Drums

Where is your happy place, and why?

My Desk. Writing is peace.

Describe what Emmaus Cambridge means to you?

It’s my home and I would do anything for the people here. The stability and ease that I found in this place cannot be bought at any price.
