CLOSING DATE: 30 June 2023 LOCATION: Emmaus Cambridge SALARY: £25,000 per annum TYPE: Full-time

We are looking for a self-motivated and caring individual, with experience of working with vulnerable adults, to join our team and help people who have experienced homelessness to re-build their lives.

Emmaus Cambridge is a charity and social enterprise, providing a home for up to 50 formerly homeless people (companions) who are working their way out of homelessness by recycling and re-selling furniture and other goods.  We run a busy café, shop, and emporium from our community home in Landbeach, as well as selling goods online and other external markets.

In this key role, you’ll be part of a team supporting our community of companions, enabling them to work to the best of their ability within our social enterprise, whilst also supporting and encouraging their personal development.  The work is wide-ranging; you’ll assist companions with a variety of issues from health matters and substance abuse recovery to creating personal development plans and taking advantage of external training opportunities.

Record keeping is essential and excellent IT skills are a must for the role. You’ll also help companions develop life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and choosing healthier lifestyle options.

Working alongside the Support Manager and other staff members, you’ll help to ensure the smooth running of the community, assisting companions in adhering to the rules and issuing warnings or supporting behavioural change where necessary.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be adaptable, organised, and confident enough to deal calmly and effectively with difficult, sensitive issues.

You will need a full clean driving licence as you will have to drive our company vehicles when needed.  Due to the nature of the role, you will be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring check.

We are a large diverse and ambitious business, which will give you job security and all the challenge you could wish for. Here people can flourish, thrive, better themselves and work in fantastic communities with inspirational colleagues, companions, and volunteers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled support worker, who has a ‘can-do’ attitude and really wants to make a difference.

If you think you have what we’re looking for, along with an open mind and a sense of humour, Emmaus Cambridge could be the place for you!
