We’ve partnered with mental health charity CPSL Mind (Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind), to host the first in a series of Good Mood Cafés at Joan’s Coffee Shop, starting on Friday 5th December.

The Good Mood Café initiative provides an inviting, informal space where people can meet others, share interests, exchange skills and discover simple wellbeing tips designed to boost mood and connection, especially important during the more isolating winter months.

Visitors do not need to be in a ‘good mood’ to attend – the cafés are built on the message that it’s OK not to be OK, and everyone is welcome exactly as they are. CPSL Mind plan to hold a Good Mood Café at Joan’s Coffee Shop every Friday, creating a regular space for community togetherness and emotional support.

Donna Talbot, our Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with CPSL Mind to host a Good Mood Café in Joan’s Coffee Shop.

“For many of the people we support, loneliness, worry and a sense of disconnection are everyday challenges. Creating a warm, informal space where people can meet others, share experiences and pick up simple wellbeing tips can make a meaningful difference.

“We fully embrace CPSL Mind’s ethos that it’s completely OK not to feel OK, and no one has to arrive in a good mood to be welcomed here, but we hope everyone will leave feeling a little lighter than when they came in through meeting people that they enjoy chatting with over a coffee.

“We understand that initiatives such as these take time to build and we appreciate Christmas may mean that people are busy elsewhere, or alternatively that this is a great time to start as people often feel isolated at this time of year. People may also worry about the kind of Christmas they and they loved ones can afford to have. We are hopeful that they will be well supported and we look forward to offering the Good Mood Café in Joan’s Coffee Shop every week and continuing to strengthen the wellbeing of our community together.”

Mark Cooper, Good Life Service Manager at CPSL Mind, said: At CPSL Mind, we know that winter can be especially challenging for people – colder days and darker nights can affect our mood. Our new Good Mood Cafe in Landbeach, which is delivered as part of our exciting new partnership with Emmaus, will give people the opportunity to connect with others in their local community in a safe space.

“We have seen firsthand the positive difference community connections can make on people’s lives and it’s so important that we continue to look out for each other and listen to one another. These cafes will run into 2026, and we hope people will come and experience the welcoming atmosphere of the cafes for themselves. Do visit the CPSL Mind website to access helplines and information to support wellbeing over the festive season.”

CPSL Mind’s Good Mood Cafés form part of the charity’s wider efforts to promote positive mental health through similar cafes located across the region. As well as launching a Good Mood Café at Emmaus Cambridge, CPSL Mind have introduced the cafes in Cambourne and Milton, in partnership with Earth and Mind.
