Emmaus Cambridge offers more than just a bed for the night. We offer a home to our companions for as long as they need, and we provide work opportunities and training too. Over the last few weeks some of our companions have received some extra training thanks to Tara Constable.

Some of you may know that Tara is part of the staff team here at Emmaus Cambridge, and she has recently returned to work with us after qualifying as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language. She is now using her skills to teach some of our companions for whom English is not their first language. This includes native Polish, Latvian and Italian speakers, all living here at Emmaus Cambridge. The group meet a couple of times a week and are working on spoken English as well as grammar.

A big Thank You to Select English, the English language school where Tara taught, for providing the books needed for the lessons here at Emmaus Cambridge.

Companion Tomasz from Poland aged 45 “English lessons are helping me to improve my grammar and writing. It’s been really positive during lockdown for me. I enjoy working with Tara as she really cares, she’s professional and friendly. I feel like a I can be myself around her.”
