After a period of shutdown, the Emmaus Department Store in Rochdale will reopen soon with new safety measures in place. Please read on to find out about visiting our store, donating items and arranging a collection of furniture.

Our top priority is the wellbeing of our companions, staff, volunteers, trustees, supporters and the local community. To ensure the safety of our team and all visitors, we have carried out a risk assessment for reopening and put in place measures to minimise the risk of virus transmission.

Visiting our stores

Firstly, if you are showing any COVID-19 symptoms or feel unwell in any way, please do not visit our charity stores.

The Emmaus Department Store will reopen on Monday 15 June from 9:30am. The new opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm. Our Emmaus Ivy Street Superstore in Burnley will remain closed for the time being.

To ensure that physical distancing rules are maintained, our team will be monitoring the number of people within our store. We are limiting the amount of people in store at any one time so you may be required to queue prior to entry. If you are visiting as a family, please stick together and ensure that your child or children stay close at all times.

Everyone will be required to sanitise their hands on entry at our new sanitiser stations. Please handle items as infrequently as possibly, especially those you do not intend to buy. Stick to the directional arrows around the store and ensure that you maintain at least a 2 metre distance from others at all times.

The main entrance and exit to the Emmaus Department Store will be via the inside of Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre. Our upper floor books area with the entrance from the car park will remain closed initially. There will also be no exit from the ground floor to Yorkshire Street.

When purchasing items, we are now only accepting card and contactless payments – no cash. Delivery service will be available for larger items but some new controls will apply.

Donating items

We know that many people have been saving up items to donate to Emmaus. We are aiming to start accepting shop donations from July. This includes both drop-off donations and collections of larger items. Please do not leave donations outside of our store or bring items to us for the time being. Our store and storage rooms are full of items and we do not have the space or capacity to safely process incoming donations at the present time.

We will continue to follow the latest advice and guidance from government and our local authorities. Keep checking our website and social media pages for the latest information and any changes to our operations. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns via [email protected] .

Thank you for your understanding and continued support during this uncertain time. Now that our store is reopening, please come and support us as we have lots of fresh stock and great value items available.
