Filtration plant staff have surpassed more than two tonnes of clothing and household donations to support local homeless people.

MANN+HUMMEL of Burnley’s Farrington Road has been collecting for homelessness charity Emmaus Burnley since 2018, and, this month, employees celebrated reaching a milestone in donations.

Emmaus Burnley provides clothing, toiletries and advice to homeless people across the North West through its Emmaus Free Streets Outreach Project, travelling to key towns across the region.

In addition to this, the charity also provides a home, support and meaningful work for up to 24 formerly homeless people. Together, they run the largest charity department store in the country, Emmaus Department Store in Rochdale, selling new and secondhand goods to raise funds to support the homeless community.

Director of Emmaus Burnley Stephen Buchanan said: “We are very grateful to everyone at MANN+HUMMEL Burnley branch for donations of clothing and household goods. We try to make the most out of everything we receive – from distributing clothing to people living on the streets to converting these items into pounds to help the people we support with meals, travel and support with physical and mental health.

“As the seasons change, so does what we need, so we’re thankful to count on the fantastic employees at MANN+HUMMEL for donations of long-sleeved clothes in the summer as well as cold-weather and wet-weather gear in the winter, also for what they have given in homeware. We are grateful to everyone in Burnley for their donations, which all help people with experience of homelessness.”

Spokesperson Joanne Koval for the town’s arm of the international filtration company said: “Over the years MANN+HUMMEL pride ourselves on supporting local charities through sponsored events, food parcels and toy appeals.  In 2018 we looked at other ways we could support the community and came across Emmaus Burnley.  After agreements with employees and management we contacted Emmaus and asked how best we could contribute to such a great charity.

“We soon had a collection bin delivered to site and all employees were invited to make donations of clothing and household goods.  As always we can rely on our employees to be generous and the bin filled very quickly and we were able to have Emmaus come to site to collect the donations.  We continue have the collection bins on site and these are regularly filled and collected.

“Being part of this charity is important to us as a local business and we are hoping we can make a difference to the Burnley people who need this support.”
