No one likes to think of once treasured possessions going to landfill.
When you are faced with the prospect of sorting and clearing the treasures and gallimaufry of a loved one’s life, it can seem like a daunting task. Emmaus Bristol’s house clearance service has been developed in response to customer’s requirements, from those managing a bereavement, to those downsizing.
Our experienced and friendly crew will pack up and load all those once-loved items into our vans and bring them back to our yard, where they will be carefully sorted to ensure that reusable items find a new home via one of our retail outlets, giving another family the chance to enjoy them.
Some items may need a little TLC to bring them back to life, so the team will steam, brush, paint or polish to get the item looking its Sunday best. Where items are beyond reuse or upcycling, we strip and sort component parts for recycling to reduce the quantity and size of product going to landfill. In this way, we help to make the most out of all the goods collected. The crew are often the last to see all the trappings of the life lived and it can be a form of comfort to know that many items are being sorted and reused.
The income we generate, through both the house clearance service and the sale of collected items, is used to provide accommodation, food, mentoring and work experience for individuals who have experienced homelessness. Having a meaningful job to do gives vital purpose to adults who have often lost confidence and pride in themselves.
All our enterprises, including the house clearance service, are operated by and for our residents and this work experience is sited by 80% of companions (residents) as the most important part of belonging to an Emmaus community.
This means that when you choose to book a service or make a purchase with Emmaus Bristol, you know your payment is going to help people to support themselves out of homelessness. Our surplus income is used to provide companions with a home, training and ongoing support to rebuild their lives. We are an active charity, not one providing passive hand-outs; those supported by its funds are also engaged in the work of its social enterprises.
So if you, or someone you know, may require a house clearance service, and you want your purchase to provide more than just income, call Emmaus Bristol for a quote on 0117 954 0886, Option 1, email firstname.lastname@example.org or request a callback using the form below.

“The team at Emmaus have just completed a 2 day job at my elderly mother’s house. I found them to be professional, courteous, time efficient and organised. They were a dream to be around. Nothing was too much trouble and they worked together as a team in an excellent way. They exceeded my expectations. They respected the property and the contents and worked in all weather conditions without complaint. I would wholeheartedly recommend this team!”
