Want a guaranteed, stress-free income while benefiting others? Emmaus Bristol is looking for landlords willing to rent directly to our residents, with our charity acting as guarantor.

We need houses for the people we support so they can move on from our communal accommodation and return to independent living and working.

If you think renting to us could be for you, we would love to hear from you and will be happy to answer any questions you have. You’re also welcome to visit us. Please call Antonia Reynolds on 07544 065023, or email on [email protected].

Why do we need this?

Soaring rental costs, significant cuts to housing benefits and major changes to the benefit system have resulted in a desperate shortage of affordable housing, with 1 in 170 people in Bristol now homeless.

‘Homelessness has increased across all measures since 2010, with many local authorities now seeing it as a risk to their financial sustainability.’ National Audit Office

‘The number and proportion of households presenting as homeless due to the loss of private tenancy has soared since cuts to Housing Benefit began in 2011.’ Shelter

Bristol has ‘an increasingly unaffordable private rental sector’. Bristol City Council

This project to recruit landlords and support the Companions who move on is funded by Nationwide.

Dan Still, Nationwide’s Regional Director for the South West, said: “We know that there are many people who have been homeless or have experienced family or close friends without a home of their own, so it’s imperative that we do something about this.”
