What we are looking for:
We’re looking for a highly motivated, assertive and trauma informed individual to offer support to people from diverse backgrounds who were previously homeless or at risk, and to help them take the necessary steps to move forward with their lives.
Who we are:
Emmaus Bristol is an innovative charity connected to an International movement of justice and solidarity. We have a social enterprise based in the re-use sector that is committed to reducing our environmental impact, and additionally supported accommodation where people who were formerly homeless or at risk, have the opportunity to live and connect, and during the day volunteer in the social enterprises full-time.
Unlike many homelessness charities, we don’t just offer a bed for the night. Instead, we offer a home for as long as someone needs it. The combination of a stable home and having something to do every day helps to restore lost confidence and gives people the time and space to be able to deal with any problems they may have experienced.
Skills you will need:
The support worker will be responsible for support to community members, and work coaching with both community members and non-residential volunteers, carrying out risk and needs assessments, signposting to specialist services, inductions, support sessions, health and safety at our accommodations, building relationships with agencies in the area to provide specialist help and move-on support. The support worker will be comfortable working with all genders/non-binary. (Currently 80% male, 20% female, and no people who are non-binary.)
In addition, we offer tenancies to families and individuals at risk of homelessness and the support worker will offer tenancy support. This is an exciting opportunity for a keen and assertive support worker, who has a ‘can-do’ attitude and really wants to make a difference
Benefits:
Salary of £24,000 to £27,000 (Full time) per annum subject to experience and working hours.
- Working Hours – 0.6 FTE to Full time.
- Annual Leave – 25 days per annum, plus 8 bank holidays (Full time)
