Three runners, including a formerly homeless man, are teaming up to run the Brighton Marathon this Sunday – 7 April – in support of Sussex Emmaus.
Joseph, who was previously homeless, is now a resident at Emmaus, living in our Portslade community home and is running to raise money for the charity. Sussex Emmaus is home to 57 residents (known as Companions).
Emmaus supports people who have experienced homelessness by offering them a home, individual support and meaningful work opportunities in the charity’s social enterprise.
Max Blackburn & James Malburn, two of Sussex Emmaus’ supporters are also running the marathon to raise money for the charity.
Max said “By fundraising for Emmaus, I hope to contribute to their efforts to support individuals who have experienced homelessness. I am inspired by the resilience and determination of the companions working hard to rebuild their lives. Running the Brighton Marathon is a personal challenge, but knowing that my efforts support such an important cause motivates me!”
Karen Chapman, Chief Executive at Sussex Emmaus, said: “We are very proud to have three runners representing and fundraising for us in the Brighton Marathon this Sunday. It will really give the whole charity a boost and help us in our mission to tackle homelessness through meaningful, long-term solutions.”
The Brighton Marathon Weekend aims to be an event that offers something for everyone by being engaging, welcoming and inclusive. Around 13,000 participants are expected to take part in the 2024 Brighton Marathon on Sunday 7 April, many of whom are fundraising for charities they care about.
