Two members of the Sussex Emmaus community, Jason (our Catering Assistant) and Kingsley (a companion), are preparing to take on a charity boxing challenge hosted by Ultra White Collar Boxing on Saturday 29 November at The Grand in Brighton. Both participants have been training hard at Fishergate Boxing Gym in the lead-up to the event, all with the goal of raising vital funds for our charity.

Jason’s journey

For Jason, the challenge offered an opportunity to rebuild his fitness and take on something completely new.

“I was looking for a physical challenge to take on after not exercising for a while. Since starting training, I’ve gone through a tough but rewarding programme, including cardio, strength, and protective exercises. I regularly practise meditation, which helps me visualise the match itself. I am happy to raise funds for Sussex Emmaus, which is not only my workplace but also a local community hub where my family spends a lot of happy times.”

Kingsley’s motivation

Kingsley is no stranger to fundraising and has previously completed a 10k run in support of Sussex Emmaus. He also has some past experience with boxing, making this challenge a natural next step.

“The initial physical training is tough, but once it’s done, the technical training comes into play and feels like a great achievement. It is a great challenge going up in the ring against an opponent, but also really rewarding. It helps with my mental and physical health and keeps me focused.”

Supporting their efforts

We are incredibly proud of Jason and Kingsley for taking on this demanding challenge and dedicating their efforts to supporting our community.
