Emmaus Bradford is looking for retail volunteers to help in-store and online

Love charity shops and retail? Like selling things online? Have you got an eye for detail, good people skills and willingness to help out in lots of different areas? Then find out about our Charity Shop Volunteer roles within our Emmaus Bradford Charity Superstore at Cross Lane, just off Great Horton Road.

Emmaus is a charity that provides both accommodation and work for their companions (former homeless), together with training and counselling to help them become financially independent in the future and to build up their self-respect.

Summary of tasks

In-Store

  • Sort through clothing donations
  • Replenish stocks
  • Customer service
  • Take payments by cash or card
  • Maximise use of shop floor and arranging retail displays.

Online

  • Select products for sale online
  • Photograph and upload details to selected online retail outlets
  • Prepare items for despatch
  • Monitor payments

 Skills and experience needed

We’re looking for dedicated individuals preferably with experience of charity shops or retail, either in-store or online, but training can be given.  Good knowledge or interest in clothes, antiques or furniture is an asset.

  • Ability to work fast and accurately
  • Teamwork and people skills
  • A willingness to be adaptable and work in different areas
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and a positive attitude.

Time commitment

We are looking for a volunteer that will commit to at least 1 day per week and 2 half-days.  Shop hours are 10.00-16.00 weekdays, 11.00-14.00 Saturdays. You can volunteer any day between Monday and Saturday and we can be flexible in terms of what day(s) these will be.

Training, support and benefits

  • As an Emmaus volunteer you will be given a full induction when you start.
  • A staff member will support you throughout your time as a volunteer.
  • We will offer you an opportunity to develop your skills and experience for a worthwhile cause.
  • We will look to provide further training where possible.
  • Travel and out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed on the days that you volunteer.
