From paintings and dog walks to swimming, cycling, and running, our incredible fundraisers have taken on the Emmaus Big Marathon Month 2025 in some seriously inspiring ways — all helping Emmaus to change lives.

The annual fundraising event returned this year with a simple challenge; complete at least 26.2 miles during the month of May, in any way you like.

The creativity and drive participants have shown is a powerful reflection of the cause itself. Every mile has made a meaningful difference with almost £3,000 raised so far.

Neil, an Emmaus resident and fundraising participant, said:

“Completing this challenge gave me a great sense of achievement and I was overwhelmed at how many miles I had done. Some of it was on foot as well as my bike but I was pleased to reach 92 miles by the end of the month.

“When I first set out, I didn’t think I’d raise as much as I did and would like to thank everyone who donated as it means a lot.”

Making a real difference

Every pound raised during the Emmaus Big Marathon Month helps to fund our work providing a home, personalised support, training and work opportunities to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.

Thanks to generous donations from supporters, more than 850 people living at Emmaus communities and people who are currently homeless will receive life-changing support.

Creative fundraising at its finest

During May, we saw a range of new, exciting, and highly original fundraising challenges. This included creating a painting for every mile, throwing a medicine ball for each pound raised, spotting 26.2 creatures on every outing, and reaching 26 trig points across the UK.

Emmaus UK staff — along with a few family members — took on a challenge of their own, collectively travelling 1,600 miles as a team, matching the combined distance between all 29 Emmaus communities and groups across the UK.

Charlotte Talbott, Chief Executive at Emmaus UK, said:

“A massive thank you to everyone who has taken on Big Marathon Month or donated – we’ve seen so much drive and creativity from everyone involved this year.

“The energy it has created across Emmaus – among staff, companions, and supporters – has been inspiring. I’ve also been doing my bit by swimming, paddling and group cycling the month away.

“The money raised will make a real difference, and the awareness we’ve built around our work is just as valuable.

“I can’t wait to see even more people take on the challenge next year.”
