Emmaus shop helps prevent debt and homelessness
A survey by Emmaus Colchester has revealed that 72% of customers find that shopping at Emmaus has prevented them from getting into debt and referral agencies for the furniture scheme unanimously believe that it helps to sustain tenancies and prevent homelessness.
Project leader Lesley Corner says; “The information revealed by the survey confirms what I have always known to be the case; In addition to being a solution to the problem of homelessness, Emmaus provides an invaluable service to the wider community.”
Work on the residential part of the building has just started and it won’t be long before Emmaus Colchester will be welcoming its first Companions. Once in their home, the new residents of Emmaus Colchester will join the endeavour to help those most in need as well as working to support themselves.
