Emmaus International digs deep for Benin

Emmaus International is working with local people to bring clean drinking water to 65 000 people on the shores of Lake Nokue in the West African country of Benin.

Companions, volunteers and Community staff from across the Emmaus movement are gearing up to join Lake Nokue inhabitants for a marathon digging session. From 24th February to 4th March, they aim to dig about 2 miles of channels for new pipelines!

The week long work camp won't be unrelenting toil - there'll be opportunities to visit other parts of the Nokue programme and take part in local cultural events.

Emmaus International campaigns on several isues such as the right to water, the right to health, the right to education and rights for migrants. Every June, the Emmaus Solidarity Sales raise money for projects which actively promote these rights. On 14th June 2009 Emmaus Communities from all over Europe will take over the Paris Expo for the 10th Paris Salon where they hope to raise as much as possible for Emmaus International projects.
