Emmaus Companion triumphs in Marathon effort
Clayton Cutter, a Companion at Emmaus Leeds, rose to the challenge of running this year’s London Marathon for Emmaus.
Despite being injured, Clayton finished the Marathon in just four and a half hours. He ran behind the Masai warriors from Tanzania, and benefited from the huge support for them from the crowds.
“The noise was like one big roar all the way round,” Clayton commented after the race. “The whole thing was just amazing, and I’d recommend it to anyone.”
Clayton had a special reason for running. His best friend Alan, also a Companion at Emmaus Leeds, died last year, and Clayton decided to run the Marathon in his memory. He wore a Newcastle United football shirt as a tribute to his friend.

“Having Alan’s name and birthday on my shirt was what it was all about.”
The money that Clayton raised will be used to help develop resources at Emmaus Leeds and to help establish further Emmaus Communities in the UK.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” he said, adding “I just cannot wait to do it all again next year.”
