Feature ideas

The causes of homelessness
The residents of our 19 Communities are the source of the best and most revealing testimonies. It is from them that we learn about the reasons why people become homeless in the first place, what it feels like to sleep rough or live in hostels and other temporary accommodation and what helps people who have lost everything to escape the cycle of deprivation and isolation.

Social enterprise
The benefits of working for yourself and others, the formation of a replicable and unique business-led charity.

Environmental impact
Thousands of tonnes are diverted from landfill each year by the recycling activities of Emmaus Communities. Buying second hand avoids the toxic manufacturing processes involved in making new furniture.

Ethical living
Re-using rather than buying new, furnishing your house with second hand goods, buying gifts from second hand sources.

Lifestyle and design
Expert input about what is collectable from Emmaus shops, the link between design, recycling and charity, crafts produced by Emmaus residents using recycled materials.

Property
Many Emmaus Communities are in areas in need of regeneration - old buildings put to new use, three of the Communities are listed buildings.

Patron profiles and endorsements
Emmaus supporters such as Terry Waite, Cherie Blair, John Studzinski and Martin Bell talking about their involvement with and passion for Emmaus.
